What an intense morning of conversation. Depression, religion, digestion are just some of the topics that have been discussed on this freezing day. I just can’t stop myself from getting involved in juicy conversation. Mother penalises me endlessly but even today she was too enticed by the discussions. It’s not even midday and i’m already pooped!
Salads:
Indian spiced cauliflower + lentils
Ginger + turmeric rice
Courgette, tomato + basil pasta
Soup: Spiced parsnip + potato
Sandwich: Pastrami beef, Asiago cheese, Jalapeno relish + tomato
I just made myself a sandwich on a ficelle. It’s like a super skinny baguette. I basically just made a skinny scooby snack and it has brightened up my day i’ll tell ya. A wise wizard told me to appreciate the small wins in my day rather than dwell on the series on unfortunate events that usually prevails. I’ll be testing out this wisdom to see if it will improve my mood on a day to day basis.
Salads:
Five spiced aduki beans
Lemon + ginger rice
Paprika roasted squash ragu pasta
Soup: Thai spiced vegetables
I have spent the morning trying to compose an email to my property mangers that doesn’t consist of swearing and insults. The British love to complain, I like to find solutions. However when I feel I have royally shafted I take great offence and go on a war path. I’ll criticise every facet of your being until you come to the realisation that you are the problem. Pattern up, pagan.
Salads:
Moroccan spiced chickpeas
Sumac + preserved lemon rice
Leek, Black olive + tomato pasta
Cauliflower + potato bake
Soup: Velvet mushroom
Sandwich: Sausage, Pecorino cheese, Chilli relish + tomato
I swear the deli is a simulation. I genuinely feel like I’ve made my own sitcom that I get to live in and it distracts me from the tribulations that life likes to throw at me. I think I dedicate so much of myself to the deli as a way of procrastination. Either way I’m knee deep in this series and I can’t wait to see what the season finale has in store.
Salads:
Thai coconut curry with sweet potato
Miso + crispy shallot rice
Broccoli, chilli + garlic pasta
Med veg lentils
Soup: Indian spiced vegetables
Sandwich: Chorizo, Chilli pecorino, Spicy peach relish + tomato
I’m so excited to end this week. This will be my 7th good day in a row and i’m hoping it will go in my favour. I’ve learnt to like Friday’s, for many they’re the start to the weekend but for me it’s the hardest day of the week. Like an athlete on game day I have a schedule I like to follow to give me the best chances of success. Lucky socks and all.
Salads:
Med veg lentils
Spinach + herb rice
Sausage + ham pasta
Soup: Indian spiced parsnip + tomato
Sandwich: Fennel salami, Cheddar, Chilli relish + tomato
I’m wishing for a busy day i’m quite tired so i’d like to just knuckle down and get through the working day. I’ve just had an impromptu visit from my brother who attempted to acquire some of the Anya Hindmarch x UNIQLO collab and it had already sold out after 15 mins of the store being open. Cosy living is more important that cost of living.
Salads:
Roast pepper + white bean
Smoked sweet pepper rice
Courgette, tomato + oregano
Soup: Mushroom + tomato
Sandwich: Roast lamb, Goats cheese, Tomato, Dill pickles + pickled red onion
I’m convinced that I have to deal with more drama than the average person purely because I own a deli where people express their sober woe’s at all hours of the working day. You’d think I’d be bored of the constant calamities but I find it so interesting. The deli would be a great setting for a David Attenborough series on anthropology.
Salads:
Spicy gungo peas
All spice rice
Smokey aubergine + tomato pasta
Bacon, potato + leek braise
Soup: sweet potato + ginger
Yesterday was a good day. I’m underlining this because it’s a rarity that I can whole heartedly say ‘I had a good day today’ but it is possible. I’m aiming to achieve the same sensation today but the to do list is looking peak. Never the less, when looking for fulfilment and satisfaction set small goals because hurdles are easier to conquer than the high jump.
Salads:
Three lentil curry
Lemon + mint rice
Cauliflower + sunflower seed pesto pasta
Veggie pasta bake
Soup: Spinach, potato + parsnip
Great weekend. We cleaned up at the quiz, I secured a lot of Lego and my prize fighter won by TKO. It’s been a slow morning with the majority still painfully hungover from the weekend antics. I’m sitting pretty on the other side as I didn’t indulge in the devils juice but instead I opted for God’s green leaf, woke up fresh as a daisy this morn.
Salads:
Mexican beans
Spinach + herb rice
Mushroom + tomato pasta
Sausage, ham + bean braise
Soup: Lightly spiced black lentil
Sandwich: Spicy salami, Fontina cheese, Jalapeno relish + tomato
It’s another fun filled weekend ahead. I have gone through an ungodly amount of quality street this week I put it down to me feeling sorry for myself. However the over eating season is upon us and if I want to eat like a beast I have to become besties with the treadmill to compensate. Girl math.
Salads:
Roast squash + black lentils
Sweet pepper + sriracha rice
Roast vegetable ragu pasta
Soup: Indian spiced lentil
Sandwich: Fennel salami, Pecorino cheese, Spicy peach relish + tomato
I managed to slice my index finger and thumb on the slicer yesterday. This is not ideal as I have a hands on job but I have to push through the pain and get on with it. Obviously I want to whimper and stew in my unfortunate situation but Mother won’t allow for it as she has sliced her finger many times and still managed to push out food for 200 people.
Salads:
Mild mung bean curry
Coconut + ginger rice
Sausage + ham pasta
Med veg lentils with salted ricotta
Soup: Lightly spiced parsnip
I have to actively try to trust people. I’ve experienced so many slighting’s in my career so i’m inevitably cautious. What angers me the most is when I put my faith in a person, even when everyone in my vicinity tells me that they’re a waste of time and space and then they go and disrespect me. Don’t be surprised when I burn the bridge with no intention of a rebuild.
Salads:
Med veg lentils
Rainbow rice
Roast squash ragu pasta
Chickpea, beetroot + dill with ricotta salata
Soup: Indian spiced vegetables
Sandwich: Speck ham, Provola cheese, House relish + tomato
My ears are blocked, like that feeling when you reach a high altitude. I keep trying to yawn to pop them but no luck yet. Nelly is in today which means Mother and I will be taking on the sandwich section. This is going to be an interesting lunch rush. You can’t have two head chefs…who will win the petty battle?
Salads:
Chilli non carne
Spinach + herb rice
Chicken ragu pasta
Veggie pasta bake
Soup: Leek, potato + chive
I had a great weekend, top tier entertainment. This evening Moose and I will head to Peter Jones (weather depending) and stock up on quality street. I love a box of chocolates and this year I will feel less guilty for going through kilo’s of quality street as their packaging is now apparently recyclable!
Salads:
Peri peri cauliflower + split peas
Carrot + dill rice
Roast pepper + tomato pasta
Veggie bake with croutons
Soup: Velvet mushroom
Sandwich: Chorizo, Pecorino, Chilli relish + tomato
I don’t like making plans because I have commitment issues but as the festive season is rolling in so are the social events. I will be taking it one week at a time. This week has been top tier, other than the cowboy scammer on hump day. So I will be attending my social engagements with a merry heart!
Salads:
Thai spiced coconut curry
Tofu + miso rice
Mushroom + artichoke ragu pasta
Soup: Sweet potato + ginger
Sandwich: Spicy salami, Chilli pecorino, Red onion relish + tomato
I have no wifi at home so we had to settle for freeview last night which was quite the throwback. I haven’t heard ‘find out after the break’ in a minute. I was sucked in by the adverts because I find them so interesting, it’s a little glimpse into modern society. Hopefully the internet gets installed today, the nostalgia was fun for a night.
Salads:
Roast pepper + white bean
Lemon + herb rice
Courgette, tomato + rosemary pasta
Spiced beans + crab stick
Soup: Tuscan tomato
I, like a normal person, believe the festive period begins at the very end of November so planning festive fun now seems so corporate. Christmas belongs to December. If you like Christmas spirit you can be a nice person all year long don’t try and start the festive period now and if you start feeling festive in October don’t even look in my direction.
Salads:
Aubergine in black bean with aduki beans
Wakame seaweed rice
Cauliflower + cashew pesto pasta
Soup: Vegetable madras
Sandwich: Milano salami, Smoked mozzarella, Jalapeno relish + tomato
Monday’s get a lot of schtick for being the worst day of the week but i’m not a fan of Tuesday’s. The responsibilities of the week have sunk in and the weekend seems so far away. This Tuesday is a fine day. The sun is out and the morning has been pleasant. Let’s make this feeling last.
Salads:
Moroccan spiced lentils
Sumac + preserved lemon rice
Chicken ragu pasta
Mushroom concoction with polenta croutons
Soup: Spiced carrot + lentils
I’ve been struggling to write something positive so I went up to the shop floor and quizzed people on their good news to see if I could find something happy to chat about. I can’t say I was successful in finding a happy tale to tell. Any good news? Anyone?
Salads:
Mexican beans
Red pepper rice
Broccoli, chilli + garlic pasta
Jackfruit braise
Soup: Med veg lentils
Sandwich: Cumberland sausage, Swiss cheese, Apple + ale chutney + tomato
I ran home to my bed ready for a glorious nap. I woke up at 6am. Needless to say i’m well rested today. This does not mean I’m in a good mood but at least i’m not yearning for rest. Should be a quiet weekend so I might invest in a little more R&R, maybe by Monday i’ll be leaning on the happier side of life.

Spinach + herb rice
French bean, Tomato + herb pasta
Potato + chickpea braise with sausage + ham
