Day 1106 Let's just talk about the weather

The dissatisfaction level of life has been mighty high recently. The biggest highlight of most days is looking back at my performance and applauding the incredible acting I do on a daily basis. I’m joking of course, just a bit of banter to start off your week. What about storm Darragh eh? Crazy stuff!

Menu:

Chilli non carne

Spinach + herb rice

Mushroom ragu pasta

Croutoned, bean salad with roast pepper + herb dressing

Soup: Lightly spiced broccoli

Sandwich: Milano salami, Pecorino cheese, Jalapeno relish + tomato

Day 1105 (my) Mums the word

We’re all such gossips aren’t we? We all have our own styles of spreading the word, even the words we choose to spread but we all talk. Wondering why we (as a population) find ourselves in certain scenarios. Hypercapitalism for example, how did we get to this? ‘back in my day’ No. Shut up. You’re just as responsible for this as we are. But whose willing to inconvenience themselves slightly for the greater good?

Salads:

Mild chickpea curry

Roast pepper rice

Sausage + ham pasta

Soup: Cumin roasted potato + spinach

Day 1104 A change of heart

I had my bars set and ready to spit as we were hit again yesterday with a poor review, honestly we need to fire the staff! My heart was filled with venom as I went stomping to my keyboard ready to mock Mr Wade but then God threw something at me to flip my script! Not one, not two but three top notch reviews! I removed my hands from the lettered interface and paused to process a phrase we all know and take into account when one is faced with a conflict. The radiant retribution for a recreant review is and will always be the same…A deli-less life. Enjoy!

Salads:

Beetroot goulash

Leek + dill rice

Mushroom + tomato pasta

Soup: Velvet mushroom

Sandwich: Spicy salami, Gorgonzola, Cumberland caramelised onion relish + tomato

Day 1103 I heard you don't like me

omg omg omggg!! Guys. We got a 2 star google review because I am UNPROFESSIONAL! I am over familiar and too rude! That’s news to me, lolz. Miss Barton signs off with ‘ultimately they need a ‘proper adult’ in charge.’ Where does one begin when it comes to dissecting this statement, this constructive criticism, this absolute TRUTH BOMB! Miss Barton you’re welcome to come and fulfil my role whenever you like honey, let’s see how long you stay unfamiliar and kind. Y’all asked me for the T and God landed this beauty in my lap!

Salads:

5 spiced black bean

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Broccoli, chilli + garlic pasta (contains sesame)

Brussel sprout bake

Day 1102 Bitter as ever

I know I’m quite miserable on here, I’ve actually made a genuine attempt to be more upbeat as of late. When I first started witing these little exerts, they were for me and a few estate agents that would go on our website to see what’s cooking. Now people are hesitant to interact with me in case they get put on blast. This isn’t Gossip Girl. I also won’t use your government name but rather the belittling nickname I use to refer to you because your name doesn’t matter you gobermouch!

Salads:

Moroccan spiced lentils

Sumac rice

Sausage + ham pasta

Veggie pasta bake

Soup: Indian spiced veg

Sandwich: Chorizo, Provola cheese, Spicy peach relish + tomato

Day 1101 I need sleep

It’s been an intense day and we haven’t even hit the mid point. I haven’t had a second to think this morning but i’m not complaining. I love when a Friday is properly busy. It gets to the end of shift and someone asks ‘how was your day?’ - not a clue. My brain told my hands what to do but if you ask me for information people told me and the responses I gave, i’m at a loss.

Salads:

Mild chickpea curry

Turmeric + ginger rice

Roast squash ragu pasta

Soup: Mild vegetable madras

Day 1100 PSA

As a Londoner I stay clear of the tourist traps and generic entertainment that is set up across the city to entertain the herd. Moreso I laugh at the morons that endorse these sterile enterprises by spending their coins on the consumerist, cultureless shite these places offer. I got got last night. Sucked in by the perfectly lit pick and mix at Battersea Power Station. This morning I hang my head in shame and ask for mother mercy to reimburse me.

Salads:

Pumpkin spiced curry

Coconut + ginger rice

Chicken ragu pasta

Baked nutty pasta

Sandwich: Cooked ham, Raclette cheese, Spicy peach relish + tomato

Day 1099 Head in the clouds

Welcome to the procrastination station where we stare off into the distance about nothingness. I’m not too worries though, I’ve devised a list of duties for the day so I know I won’t leave without doing what needs to be done. I don’t know how office workers don’t spend their whole day on YouTube, the tab’s just there like an open pack of biscuits!

Salads:

Mexican beans

Sumac rice

Cauliflower + cashew nut pesto pasta

Croutoned salad with feta + dill dressing

Soup: Sweet potato, cumin + ginger

Day 1098 The truth is best served awkwardly

I’ve spent my morning doing my favourite pastimes of offending my customers and over sharing with the staff. When you’re stuck in a cell all day without control of the characters that are imposed upon your life, you’ll find your general courtesy or social normalities fly out the window. I wonder if i’d be more palatable if I didn’t work here.

Salads:

Thai spiced sweet potato curry

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Tomato, peas + herbs pasta

Soup: Tuscan tomato

Sandwich: Garlic salami, Provola cheese, Chilli relish + tomato

Day 1097 Deal with the devil

We’ve conversed a lot about processed food this morning (ultra processed being the supervillain) best advice on getting clean is to just make it yourself. The moment you ask someone to do a service for you the supplier will always look for the most efficient and cost effective way to execute your request but there will be downsides. Like pharmaceuticals, the tablets could help your heart beat regularly but side effects will include anal bleeding, are you willing to accept the side effects?

Salads:

Chilli non carne

Spinach + herb rice

Sausage + ham pasta

Braised potato + mushroom

Soup: Indian spiced cauliflower + potato

Sandwich: Chorizo, Manchego cheese, Chilli relish + tomato

Day 1096 Warning, she bites when shes sleepy

I’m feeling the late nights today. My body still hasn’t engaged yet. I would like to just be in my own world today. This is possible as long as no main characters (that are actually understudies but we don’t tell them) come in and try to suck out the last morsels of energy I have. This might sound a bit weird but like, I kinda have a short temper when i’m tired. (omg i’m so quirky)

Salads:

Chickpea + med veg

Spinach + herb rice

Leek, black olive + tomato pasta

Soup: Indian spiced spinach + potato

Day 1095 A mere grasp

Sometimes I leave myself reminders so I can recall my train of thought when I return to my desk. ‘I really need to get a grip’ were the words I left on my screen this morning. How harsh. While I might not possess the attributes and accolades of the modern man, I think i’m still somewhat content with what I’ve got. My mental health is alright, I now choose when I cry rather than tears falling at the most inconvenient hours. So there’s that…

Salads:

Roast pepper + white bean

Dill rice

Smokey aubergine + tomato pasta

Soup: Sweet potato + ginger

Day 1094 Long nose

I hate when someone can’t see past the end of their own nose but yet they think they are the peoples voice. We all have preferences, everyone will have a bias, even if we try to escape it. When you are given a new piece of information or opinion you should play with it in your mouth, swallow, digest it. I find the majority chew slightly and spit right back out but preach that they are diplomatic.

Salads:

Cauliflower + lentil curry

Ginger + turmeric rice

Tomato, french bean + basil pasta

Chicken + mushroom braise with polenta croutons

Soup: Chickpea + sweet potato

Sandwich: Milano salami, Pecorino cheese, Jalapeno relish + tomato

Day 1093 Words are fun, sentences are better

What should one write about on a cold and drizzly day? Does one brighten the mood with a quick quip about a quiet client who queued to quiz me on quiche? Or should I turn my attention to the tension of the turbulent temperature that troubles our terrain? The slight sight of snow is sure to send our infrastructure down the drain.

Salads:

Sweet potato + chickpea coconut curry

Roast pepper + tomato rice

Sausage + ham pasta

Soup: Velvet mushroom

Day 1092 To be young

I had a juvenile weekend and it was marvellous. I know that having children and nurturing life is apparently very rewarding but I also know that most parents miss being themselves. Now of course, if you’ve made your children your entire personality you will forget what life was like without them, and this is great! If you recall what life was like before, you might just regret the decision to have children…

Salads:

5 spiced aubergine + black bean

Crispy shallot + soya rice

Mushroom ragu pasta

Roast carrot + dill salad, Croutons + feta dressing

Soup: Broccoli, spinach + potato

Sandwich: Cumberland sausage, cheddar cheese, Cumberland relish + tomato

Day 1091 What does my starter pack look like?

Do stereotypes know that they’re stereotypes? Surely not. Because I don’t know what stereotype I am but must be one. Maybe my category of person isn’t big enough to be a stereotype but then what box do I put myself in and are the people in there nice? Would I enjoy hanging out with those people? Or would I drive myself insane? Would this encourage me to change? Or incite a perpetual inner hatred that I will pass on to my offspring?

Salads:

Veggie curry

Coconut rice

Roast pepper + tomato pasta

Croutoned bake with mushroom + spinach

Soup: Something green

Day 1090 We can, we will, we must

I started the day so well but now procrastination has taken it’s place at the helm. My important deeds are done which means the spaced out devil will only shaft my own plans. You know when you have a long list is small, tedious tasks? I will wait for the rush to come and go then refuse to leave my desk until I ticked those ‘to do's’ in the tushy!

Salads:

Braised chickpeas

Rainbow rice

Mushroom ragu pasta

Soup: Red lentil + carrot

Day 1089 Hello, how can I help?

I really enjoyed working the counter yesterday, mainly because I got to exercise my unconventional customer service skills. You might think me rude when I don’t laugh at your uninventive joke but it’s necessary for me to do this. The deli is delicious and good value therefor there is a high chance you will return, I can’t subject myself to your poor banter for the foreseeable future.

Salads:

Thai spiced sweet potato + chickpea

Edamame + crispy shallot rice

Sausage + ham pasta

Soup: Carrot + dill

Sandwich: Mortadella, Smoked mozzarella, Jalapeno relish + tomato

Day 1088 Love to hate

It’s been an idyllic little deli morning. It’s been so chilled and enjoyable, the perfect way to start the week. I will be working the counter for the next couple days. I’ve had some entertaining painful customers waltz through those doors, if you look closely you’ll see me shooting daggers. Mask my grievances with the ‘English smile’.

Salads
Lentils cacciatore

Spinach + herb rice

Roast squash ragu pasta

Chickpea + paneer curry

Soup: Broccoli, chilli + garlic

Sandwich: Garlic salami, Fontina cheese, Chilli relish + tomato

Day 1087 The arrogance of ignorance

It’s strange, some weeks my brain allows me to live a relatively happy life where I don’t think about the atrocities that take place every minute of everyday, here and around the world. Other weeks I can’t even make a cup of tea without thinking about the British colonialist past and the seasonless nation this country once was (arguably still is) and yet they belittle and bastardise the cultures that brought them colour when they were drowning in greyscale.

Salads:

Thai coconut curry

Spring onion + soy rice

Tomato, basil + french bean pasta

Soup: Pea + miso
